About the Role

In this role, you will work directly with customers to build integrations and plug-ins to extend their use of Mattermost as the central communication platform for DevOps and technical teams. You will be responsible to help customers understand the integration workflow and match their expectations to what’s possible with Mattermost.

With an increased adoption of Mattermost, customers realize the potential of a centralized collaboration platform that allows to interact with company employees, external partners and other applications. As a Customer Success Engineer you will find a variety of use cases like:

- Rewrite an existing plugin to work with a different target system or application

- Design additional functionality that’s not part of the product right now

- Add integrations to proprietary systems like wrapper or CLI based integrations if no API is available

- Enhance the WebApp frontend to match customer UI requirements


    • Identify key integration opportunities to develop Mattermost as the central collaboration platform within DevOps and technical teams

    • Design, enhance and build out new integrations based on customer requirements

    • Demonstrate the ability to measure time and effort to build these integrations and plugins

    • Work collaboratively with multiple team members to deliver quality software and write documentation for customers

    • Maintain and optimize scalability, performance, and quality

    • Support operations with deployments, debugging production issues and tuning applications

    • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to solve emergent challenges

    • Implement technical recommendations for the Mattermost software deployment and other adjacent technologies (e.g. MySQL/PostgreSQL, mobile, SSO, ElasticSearch, to ensure high availability, redundancy and scalability

    • Communicate best practices and recommendations based on experiences with other successful Mattermost customer deployments

    • Document customer’s integration and deployment details for sharing with the broader customer and Mattermost teams


    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields, or significant professional software development experience

    • Strong experience with or an ability to quickly become proficient in Go (Mattermost Server)

    • Strong experience with or an ability to quickly become proficient in React/Redux (Mattermost WebApp)

    • Strong experience with state of the art API’s and formats like REST, JSON, XML

    • Familiarity with relational databases, particularly MySQL and PostgreSQL

    • Comfortable working with containers, particularly Docker

    • Proven writing high-performance, production-quality code

    • General tools/skills: GitHub, JIRA, Jenkins, CircleCI

    • Experience setting up and building highly available database clusters

    • Experience with distributed application systems using HTTP, WebSockets, RPC, pub/sub at scale

    • Experience working with Kubernetes a plus

    • Experience working in open source communities a plus

    • Ability to travel up to 40%
