DevOps Engineer (US - Remote or Onsite)

Overview & Responsibilities

Rackspace is seeking an DevOps Engineer with Azure, AWS, and/or GCP knowledge and experience to join our team in San Antonio, Austin, or Remote. In this role you will be part of the team that architects, implements and deploys our Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud Platform cloud based offerings.

Our DevOps Engineers get to build one-of-a-kind, cutting edge cloud solutions for some of our top enterprise customers. Our primary focus is to distill confidence in our customers by creating customized solutions and a top-notch customer onboarding experience.

Customer deployments should be solidly reliable and repeatable. Knowledge of tools like VSTS, Azure automation, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and Puppet is critical to achieving this goal. If you enjoy writing programmatic solutions to reduce customer turnaround time and your own workload, this team is what you’re looking for.


  • Work with a talented and highly engaged team of Engineers, Relationship Managers and Product Team

  • Automate PAAS and IAAS deployments for customer environments on our supported multiple cloud platforms

  • Architect cloud environment best practices and deployment methodologies

  • Create automation tools and processes to improve Team and Racker day to day functions

  • Educate customers on Cloud and Rackspace best practices and architecture

  • Assist in educational briefings for teammates to advance in technical trainings for continued growth

  • Act as an escalation point for our MPC Support Engineers when required

  • Provide a continuous Fanatical Support experience for our customers


  • 3+ years experience as a DevOps engineer or Site Reliability Engineer

  • Working knowledge of Azure, GCP, or AWS Resources and Services, Scaling, Load Balancing, CDNs, Networking etc.

  • Experience automating and orchestrating workloads on Azure, GCP, or AWS

  • Experience in scripting specifically Python, PowerShell, and Bash.

  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and/or LDAP

  • Experience working with at least one of the following languages: C#, Json, Python

  • Experience with GIT, VSTS, Terraform, or Cloud Formation

  • Proficient leveraging CI/CD tools to automate testing and deployment

  • Experience in the cloud services & APIs to automate tasks

  • Strong Windows and/or Linux skills

    • MCSE or RHCE certifications preferred

  • Knowledge of databases like SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB

  • Working knowledge of Backup and Recovery methodology and implementations

  • Knowledge of supported network appliances and related solutions

  • Knowledge of Azure federation services is preferred for Azure Engineers

  • Good knowledge of application development using Agile, and DevOps best practices

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate both technical issues to nontechnical and technical audiences

  • Effective with time management and expected deliverables

  • An ability to multi-task and work on multiple concurrent projects

  • Certifications (one of the following requirements must be met):

    • Must have Azure Certifications or be able to obtain them within 90 days of starting role

    • Must have Google Cloud Platform Certifications or be able to obtain them within 90 days of starting role

    • Must have one of the following AWS Certifications or be able to obtain them within 90 days of starting role:

      • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional

      • AWS Certified SysOps

      • AWS Certified DevOps
