Senior Delivery Engineer - Optical Networking

World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT) has an opportunity for a Delivery Engineer focused on Cisco Optical Networking to support our Professional Services activities.

In this role, you should have the necessary skills to deliver our technology solution on service engagements and provide training solutions our customers on Optical Networking technologies.

As a delivery engineer, you will be working in the field with our customers to install and configure networks at customer facilities. You will also be working with our internal solution architects and other resources to ensure the delivery of the project is a success.

As a delivery engineer, you will be working on developing and updating various standard process documents, methods of procedures and work instructions in order for WWT to deliver our optical solutions.

The role is expected to be a subject matter expert in the details of installation and configuration of this technology. The ability to work with others on the team to gain additional insight into methods and procedures, quality improvements and related areas is a key requirement for this role.

As with any engineering focused role, you will have mastered the art of estimating work and be proactive in managing your billing time and related administrative activity.

Additionally, you will work in WWT's Advanced Technology Center to build and maintain lab environments as they relate to your customer projects, develop and deliver training material for your technology area and work on proof of concepts for customer deployments.

Finally, as a part of our organization you will be responsible for supporting our technicians who work in our global integration centers on customer projects very similarly as you would with our direct customers.


  • Scope and estimate time and material required to execute customer projects

  • Design, install, configure and troubleshoot complex optical networks

  • Develop process documents, methods of procedures and work instructions on optical technologies and networks

  • Develop polished customer facing network designs and as-built documentation

  • Provide excellent customer service and support

  • Work with our team members to develop skills in related emerging technology

  • Work cross-functionally with other team members on complex solutions

  • Be a champion of WWT's culture to our customers


  • 7+ years working with optical networking technologies

  • 7+ years of physical installation, provisioning and test and turn up of different vendor's optical networking equipment at customer premise and central office locations.

  • Thorough understanding of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), legacy Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET), circuit emulation (CEM), and Optical Transport Networking (OTN).

  • Working knowledge of general networking topics such as storage networking, cell-site transport, video architectures, etc. and the capability to grasp new technology concepts quickly

  • Strong knowledge of Cisco Transport Planner (CTP), and future Cisco network planning and design tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio

  • Goal-Oriented, self-starter that is capable of driving results in both a team-oriented and individual contributor environment

  • Strong presence and credibility with clients and within internal WWT team.

  • Superior organizational, conflict resolution, time management and negotiation skills are required

  • Excellent documentation skills and the ability to develop and create detailed test plans and network documents.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience with various types of optical fibers and fiber optic characterization (FOC) procedures and equipment.

  • Experience with optical test equipment (OTDR, OSA, BERT, optical power meter)

  • Experience with LAN / WAN debugging and monitoring tools.

  • Hands on experience with the Cisco NCS/ONS optical platforms (NCS2K, NCS4K, NCS4200) and EPNM management platforms required

  • Experience with Nokia and Adva optical platforms preferred

  • Cisco Certifications preferred

  • Ability to travel up to 75%
