DSI Applications & Sales Support Engineer


The purpose of the DSI Applications and Sales Support Engineer position is to assist with the ongoing operation or sale of vision guided waterjet portioning systems for the food processing industry. Major activities include gathering and prioritizing customer requirements, performing a situation assessment, locating necessary information and resources, exploring options, identifying a solution, manipulating the portioning system software to meet the customer needs, measuring results, and communicating results. The applications engineer is responsible for coordinating his or her customer visits based upon department priorities and strategic initiatives. The engineer will work as part of a team that shares information and insights weekly. The position requires frequent travel and an ability to develop working relationships across functions such as sales, project management, engineering, operations, executive management, and the customers’ factory personnel.


  • Achieve proficiency in DSI software applications. Communicate clearly to Software necessary information for new cut solution code work.

  • Gather and prioritize customer requirements. Perform situation assessments. Explore options and identify a preferred solution. Manipulate the portioning system software or the customers process to meet the customer needs. Measure results or improvements and communicate results.

  • Develop working relationships across functions such as with sales, engineering, operations and executive management, and our customers’ factory personnel. Share information and insights routinely with colleagues. Learn from interactions with customer, colleagues and equipment.

  • Travel frequently. Coordinate personal schedule, daily activities, and customer visits based upon department priorities and strategic initiatives.


Knowledge and Skills:

BS degree in engineering or meat science, with strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. The position requires an aptitude and understanding of technical concepts involving computers, software, and robotics principles. The ability to creatively translate customer requirements into practical applications is a must.

Scope of Responsibility/Accountability:

The position requires a high degree of creativity, independent thinking, and resourcefulness to translate customer needs into solutions. The position works as part of a team, with routine guidance and supervision.

How errors detected and what are the possible impacts of those errors?

Errors are typically detected by our customers’ quality assurance department or by colleagues. Since errors have an adverse impact on customer satisfaction and / or sales prospects, the errors must be corrected in a timely manner.

Work Environment:

The work environment includes working in an office as well as in factories across North America. The incumbent will be required to work in poultry and other food processing facilities which tend to be cold, moist, and noisy, and have an intense focus on hitting production targets. Ear protection must be worn when operating water jet portioning equipment.

Physical Demands:

The position requires frequent standing, reaching and product handling when working in our customers’ facilities. Frequent sitting is required while operating computers and telephones.
