]Job summary:

The Red Hat Office of the CTO team is looking for an experienced developer to join us as a Principal Software Engineer. In this role, you will help accelerate adoption and development of emerging technologies into our portfolio. You’ll serve as a key member of our engineering team and focus on developing proofs of concepts, working closely with upstream communities and downstream product teams to create technologies that bring hybrid cloud to Kubernetes. As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll need to be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment with the goal of making our end users and customers more effective and making Red Hat shine as an innovative company. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities:[


  • Research and vet new emerging technologies and provide competitive analysis around partnering and product integration


  • Understand emerging technology trends and identify gaps and opportunities


  • Rapidly develop proofs of concepts related to emerging technologies


  • Collaborate closely with product engineering teams to develop new features and inform Red Hat's long term technology strategy


  • Work closely with product management to identify long term challenges and opportunities


]Required skills:


  • 10+ years of experience with enterprise software development


  • Experience with distributed systems and Kubernetes


  • Familiarity with open source communities and open source development


  • Work in a fast-paced environment


  • Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies; comfortable context switching between projects


  • Comfortable working closely with engineers from a wide variety of Red Hat’s product teams and open source communities


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English


  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with customers and community members





The following are considered a plus:






  • Experience using Red Hat OpenShift


  • Experience contributing to the Kubernetes project


  • Experience with software-defined storage and with distributed and network storage systems


  • Master's degree or equivalent experience
