]Job summary:

The Red Hat Platform Toolchain team is looking for a Software Engineer to join our engineering team working on the open source LLVM toolchain and its associated Clang (C and C++) front end or the Go toolchain. In this role, you will help investigate, contribute to, build, debug, and analyze these and related tools. You’ll help with the team’s effort to handle incoming security reports for toolchain components on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) for our customers. In this role, you will join a fast-paced, highly experienced, and exciting engineering team working collaboratively from across the globe. You'll participate in a vibrant open source culture and help promote quality and innovation in the Red Hat’s toolchain team, influence the direction of LLVM and Clang tooling as well as the Go toolchain, and contribute to the upstream LLVM, Clang, and Go projects. Come prepared to contribute to influencing the direction of emerging technologies and be part of the team delivering excellent implementation in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). The work location for this position is flexible. Red Hat has offices across the globe, but candidates in Europe or North America are preferred. Home-based, remote candidates will also be considered.

Primary job responsibilities:[


  • Serve as the default assignee for incoming security reports for Go and LLVM and Clang, and coordinate with the technical leads on how to handle them


  • Work with the Red Hat toolchain team to build and analyze our innovative tools through their development


  • Interact with developers and communities both internally within Red Hat and externally in the open source LLVM, Clang, and Go communities


  • Contribute to the Fedora LLVM and Clang and Go toolchain content and packaging


  • Accept, analyze, and respond to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) for tools packages


  • Develop, build, and support, Red Hat’s internal software tools based on LLVM and Clang as well as Go to meet the needs of internal Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) engineering teams


  • Investigate and fix LLVM, Clang and Go compiler bugs, efficiency improvements, and optimizations in line with business needs and your skill level


  • Help build expert knowledge within the team on the LLVM, Clang and Go tools, answering directed technical questions from first-hand knowledge or through technical investigation


  • Plan and track development and regularly report progress to team management


]Required skills:


  • 3 or more years of experience in open source compiler or tools development; 5+ years are a plus


  • Proficiency in C and C++ programming languages; high level of proficiency in the Go programming languages is a big plus


  • Knowledge of and experience with LLVM and Clang and their implementations is a big plus


  • Knowledge of and experience with the Go compiler and its implementation is a big plus


  • Previous background in compiler engineering is a big plus


  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related discipline





The following are considered a plus:






  • Experience working in the software security field


  • Experience with open source tools and development models


  • Experience packaging software, particularly for operating systems


  • Current, active participation in the open source community projects


  • Knowledge of, and experience with, system tools internals


  • Experience or familiarity with the Linux kernel


  • Ability to work with a globally distributed team
